Shuttle Atlantis Moved to VAB Today

Tuesday may be the next launch attempt for Discovery, but the other two orbiters are in motion, going through the long process of readying for launch. Today, the Space Shuttle Atlantis was moved from the Orbiter Processing Facility to the Vehicle Assembly Building where it will be mated to its solid rocket boosters and external tank for STS-121.

Due to be launched sometime in September (depending on Discovery’s outcome next week), the second shuttle mission after the loss of Columbia is slated to test more safety procedures and tools including three spacewalks that will test tile repair methods.
