Black Holes at Exploration PlaceTo celebrate the opening of the new CyberDome Theater show Black Holes on Friday, February 17, we’ll be featuring articles about these mysterious and powerful objects all month long. By the time March rolls around, you’ll be a an expert, ready to roll into your next cocktail party talking about event horizons and Hawking Radiation!

Narrated by Star Trek’s “Q” John DeLancie, Exploration Place’s Black Holes is an exciting look into these powerful and mysterious objects lurking throughout the Universe. What are they? How are they born? Are we in any danger from black holes? What’s at the center - does time actually stop?

Black Holes will whisk you away to the edge of space and time, using the 60-foot diameter dome to surround you with the latest 360-degree 3-D computer animation. You’ll almost feel that inescapable force of a gravitational pull so strong, not even light can escape it!

On opening weekend, see the show with a real life black hole astronomer! University of Arizona astronomer, author and black hole expert Dr. Fulvio Melia will be presenting a lecture about black holes Saturday, February 18 at 1pm, featuring his own research into these mysterious objects. Visitors will be treated to a screening of the new CyberDome show Black Holes, followed by the talk with Dr. Melia which will feature a question and answer session. A book signing with Dr. Melia will follow, featuring his works The Edge of Infinity: Supermassive Black Holes in the Universe and The Black Hole at the Center of Our Galaxy .

Regular CyberDome admission will apply for the lecture: $4.00 (5-15), $5.00 (16-64), $4.50 (65+), with discounts with the purchase of exhibit admission.
