This year, May 5 is shaping up to be one heck of a good time. Of course, it’s Cinco de Mayo, and you may be planning to celebrate that evening, but leave your day free for a celebration of another kind. It’s Space Day!
Space Day is an international celebration of the achievements — past, present and future — of space flight. It’s a great opportunity to look back at what we’ve accomplished as a fledgling spacefaring civilization, and look forward to the incredible opportunities that await us. Museums and planetaria all over the world are planning activities for the whole family.
There’s been a lot of space flight news lately, with the return of the Space Shuttle in July, the new push to the Moon and Mars, the awarding of the X-Prize, the fledgling Chinese Space Program, the continuing mission of the International Space Station, and of course, Star Wars Episode III!
Space Day is a good time to let out your inner Spaceman Spiff. Go forth and explore the Universe!
