Recently, we posted an article about how amateur astronomers can make meaningful contributions to the science of astronomy by working in various ways with their professional counterparts.
As it turns out, there’s a fantastic new organization right here in south central Kansas for doing just that.
Tracy Tuttle of Bethany College writes in to tell us of the Central Plains Astronomy Alliance:
The Central Plains Astronomy Alliance (CPAA) is a network of advanced
amateur and professional astronomer working together to do meaningful
science with modest and/or amateur equipment, typically in one’s own back
yard. Our May meeting is free and open to the public. Anyone interested in
astronomy is encouraged to attend. Our guest speaker for this meeting will
be C.W. Robertson - an engineering supervisor at Cessna and director of
SETEC observatory. C.W.’s presentation will be on Friday, May 13 at 7:30 on
the campus of Bethel College in Krehbiel Science Center, room 121. The
title of the presentation will be “Getting Started in Measuring Variable
Stars, Resources, Tips, Techniques and Pitfalls”.
If you’ve ever wanted to combine your love for the Universe and the love of discovery, CPAA is a great organization to get involved with.
